Healthy Families America (HFA) is a comprehensive home visitation initiative dedicated to fostering positive parenting practices, bolstering child health and development, and preventing instances of child abuse and neglect. As a local affiliate of the National Healthy Families America Program, we operate with the funding of First 5 LA.
Within our scope of operation, the HFA program extends assistance to expectant individuals and new parents residing in the Best Start communities of Compton/East Compton and Broadway/Manchester.
Upon childbirth at affiliated hospitals serving these communities, parents undergo a thorough assessment to identify potential areas where support could be beneficial. Should additional assistance be desired and requested by the birth parent, they are promptly referred to our HFA program. Furthermore, referrals may originate from within the community. Eligible individuals, including expectant and recent birth parents, may also be directed to our program based on predefined criteria.
Our dedicated Family Support Specialists engage with prenatal clients, newborn parents, and other family members, providing invaluable guidance to help them navigate the challenges of early parenthood. Equipped with specialized training, these specialists offer comprehensive support encompassing the physical, educational, and social facets of child development.
Central to the HFA framework is the provision of regular home visits spanning up to five years, during which families receive tailored services and referrals tailored to their specific needs. These visits serve as platforms for disseminating educational materials, facilitating parenting workshops, and delivering developmental screenings and assessments to track the progress of the children.
